ANSI/ISEA
107-1999 Safety Vests
Safety
vests that meet the American National Standard specifies
the amount of background fabrics and retroreflective
materials for high visibility garments. The background
fabrics must be fluorescent orange/red, fluorescent
red or fluorescent yellow/green.
ANSI/ISEA
107-1999
establishes three distinct classes of high visibility
garments. The designations are Class 1, Class 2 and
Class 3. Review the ANSI/ISEA 107-1999 specifications
for full details. The information below gives a partial
description of the three ANSI/ISEA 107-1999 classes.
Class
1:
Has the least amount of fluorescent and reflectivity
trim. Used when work backgrounds are not complex and
vehicle speeds do not exceed 25 mph.
Class
2:
Garments in this class are offered with increased
reflective standards and offer “superior visibility
for wearers” over Class 1 vests. Often used
for workers which require greater visibility or when
work backgrounds are complex. Also, applies to workers
in areas where traffic auto speeds are 25 mph or more.
Class 3:
These garments are worn in inclement weather, for
occupations in heavy traffic conditions or when complex
backgrounds impair visibility. Used for pedestrian
workers and vehicle operators whose tasks place them
in danger. Ideal for wearers who must be identified
as a person and must be visible through a full range
of motion at a minimum of 1,280 feet. Also used for
workers who are exposed to a traffic speed exceeding
50 mph. |
